Ice cave iceland

Photography Tour to Waterfall Ice Cave in Vatnajökull glacier!
(or similar ice cave if that one is impossible).
This is a great chance to visit one of the most stunning ice caves that form in the winter months in the outlet glaciers of the biggest glacier in Iceland. The trip is an incredible experience that many people won´t have in their lifetime and we are excited to take you one of our favorite ice caves the last 7 years. It is never the same cave 2 years in a row, the waterfall is no longer inside the cave for example, but the cave is very beautiful nevertheless with a clear water mountain stream running through the cave.
The Waterfall Ice Cave is more difficult to access and more adventurous than the normal ice cave tour that would normally go to the Crystal Ice Cave so we only take 1-5 clients on the departure.
On this about 5-6 hour trip we will drive for one hour from our base in Fagurhólsmýri to the parking for Waterfall Ice Cave and head up onto the ice to visit the cave. The hiking route is almost 1 mile long each way. Once at the cave you will have plenty of time to explore, take in the deep blue ice and to take photos. This tour does involve walking on uneven terrain and is reasonably physical and so we rate this trip as moderate.
We cannot guarantee that other independent companies will not be operating the same location but so far there have only be 3-4 other companies working there bringing rather small groups, compared to that in the Crystal Ice Cave there are 15-20 different companies coming 2-3 times a day with 6-45 people in each group so literally there are thousand people there every single day of the ice cave season from November to March.

If you have big problem with heights we would not recommend this trip. We have some steep section in the glacier to navigate. Fully safe with rope equipment, but can be scary if you have very severe acrophobia. (If you don’t know what the word means you probably are OK 🙂
